MG MS-14A Gelgoog 2.0 Work in Progress 2

Picking up right where we left off the manual has you tackle the legs next.

Feet first.

The feet go together easy enough.

The foot frame is just as detailed as the rest of the kit.  There's a decent bend mid foot which should be plenty for any ground poses for this guy.  The working pistons around the ankle look and function great.  My one single gripe about them is...

The back thruster is a separate piece while the front is not.  Not a big deal but some extra work with masking will be need here later.

Next up we'll tackle the legs themselves.

MG MS-14A Gelgoog 2.0 Work in Progress 1

I honestly haven't had a new master grade for quite a while now. So I was itching to crack this guy open and get started.

Some notes upon opening.

One small runner of polycaps and some of them are huge

A single screw which goes in the left hand.  I think it's there mostly to help hold the hand together as the shield just clips onto the hand guard.

Small sheet of sticker decals and dry transfers. They're ok.  Pretty much the only one of note is the large ZEON that goes on the sheild.  I might look into getting waterslides from somewhere.

One thing I should mention about this build is that I'm going to build the frame up by itself first.  No real reason, just because.

Getting to it, the manual has you start with the torso.

It's pretty straight forward.  Nothing too small or complicated so far.

It all goes together smoothly and feels solid when it's done.

Next we move onto the head.

Slightly more complex than the torso.  The geared mono eye gimmick is present here just like the 2.0 Zakus.

I love how even the fin on the back of the head has some inner frame.

There's also some nice pistons under the neck.

They're a bit hard to make out but there's 4 total around the neck.

Next up is the arms.

The arms are mirror images of each other sans the left hand which has the screw in it.  The build itself might be a bit on the simple side but the end result still looks great.

The arms are the most complex part of the kit so far. As I said before, the detail in the frame looks great. There's a moving piston at the bottom bend and a faux piston at the top bend.  Both look really good regardless.  I didn't bother with the screw in the left palm yet and I went ahead and used the 'armor' pieces for the hands to keep the fingers together.  Pretty standard 2.0 hands by the way, maybe a bit larger than the Zaku's or RX-78's though.

Quick note: Be careful with the fingers on 2.0 kits (and kits of the Era that have similar hands), parts of the fingers are tiny and begging to get lost.

Now off to the shoulders.

Shoulders are simple and go together quickly.  Besides the nice detail the only thing of note here is the flap/vent things that will go in between the body and shoulders.

Now to put what we have together.

The frame's looking great so far.  I'd actually put it a step above the Zaku 2.0 frame in terms of looks alone.  The fin things between the body and shoulders kind of just float there, which is unfortunate. Perhaps they'll fit more flush when the armor is on? Oh well, with the upper half of the frame done I'm gonna call it a night.

Merry Christmas to everyone and we'll pick up where we left off in a day or so.

Christmas Loot!

Only one kit for Christmas this year (so far) but I am really excited for it. The MG Gelgoog 2.0, Zeon's too little too late final mobile suit of the One Year War.  The Gelgoog is one of my favorite ms designs and I've been wanting a 2.0 pretty much since I built the 1.0 years ago.  This is actually an older kit but I feel like the 'goog doesn't get enough love in the Gunpla community so I plan on documenting my build of this guy.

That's all for now.

What I've been up to

So I haven't posted in a good while and felt like.. well.. posting.  Works been pretty crazy so I haven't had too much time for gunpla but I have been fiddling here and there.

Going in chronological order.

I've been working on and off on the TT Hongli Sinanju. I decided to finish the kit completely in sections. For example the right leg frame here is complete with flat coat.  I plan on finishing the inner frame like this then doing the same with the outer armor.

Next up is a kit that's practically done.  Its really just waiting on my spray booth to be working again.

The MG Zaku II F2. I went with a heavy weathering scheme and it went together pretty quick.  It needs a few minor things like weathering on the machine gun. But its really just waiting on a flat coat.

The next and final kit was pretty much a spur of the moment thing.  I spotted it cheap at HobbyTown USA and decided to grab it.

Real Grade Exia.  I've always liked the Exia and I like almost every single thing about this kit. The one glaring issue being the front skirts virtually preventing the legs from kicking forward.  Bandai needed a joint similar to the Master Grade here. In my opinion they kinda cheaper out by using the standard RG joint. I mean, a similar joint can be found on the back skirt of the RG Strike Freedom so they could have made it work.  Eh, oh well. The kit still looks amazing as with any Real Grade and you Can get it into dynamic poses.  You're just a bit limited.

Well that's all for now.  Like I said, haven't accomplished much but I am starting to get through my backlog little by little. Then I go and get new kits like the Exia.  What can ya do.  In other news I did get a new gunpla setup.

My wife got this this awesome desk on clearance and its my new go to work space.  I still have my big gunpla shelves I just kinda rotate mood of the week gunpla to the shelves on this thing.

That's all for now.  For the time being I'll probably just post quick things like this (even though this ended up being a bit long). I'll still try to do galleries but don't expect any sort of detailed work in progress post from me for a while. That being said I am going to try and do more posts in general.
